Visiting The Pier First Class Lounge - Hong Kong

So in early March 2010, I had the chance to transit via HKG about 3 or 4 times, and tried out the different lounges, as an Executive Platinum, which is equivalent to OneWorld Emerald I decided to try out the first class lounges, of course the fun story started even before I checked in.

I flew Cathay Pacific (CX) from Toronto to Hong Kong. as you can see in the first picture, I used the first class line, which I am entitled to due to my status, imagine 25 year old backpacker in jeans and a regular t-shirt, right next to me this lovely old couple got in line, imagine classic example of retired couple doing there once in a lifetime trip. The Cathay Pacific agent asked in which cabin they were checkin into to, they said Business, same as mine, but the Agent pushed them over to the Business line since they ahd no status, you can only imagine they're face when they were pushed to another line and had to wait an additional few minutes. Classic airport moment, of course those trapped in the back of the plane had even a longer line but status has it's perks...

Once in HKG I had a few hours before my flight to Hanoi, Vietnam. So I took the Airport bus into town, a bargain at only HK$33, some 4 US Dollars versus the overpriced Express Train. After a few hours sweating and running all over Hong Kong, my favorite Asian city, it was time to head back to the airport. Also, it was time to drink, eat and be merry at the lounge..
Cathay Pacific FIRST class line with my Backpack... Another Classic Andrew moment... living the Business/First lifestyle on a economy/backpacker budget!
Emeralds ONLY... American Airlines Executive Platinum sure pays off...
They call this the Long Bar... wonder why??? Cathay The Wing Lounge at HKG
having some Sushi and Dim Sum with a JW Black & Coke @ Hong Kong... all of this on a sub 150 US$ ticket... gotta love livin life up front... and on a budget...
Cathay The Wing Lounge at HKG... they have private cabanas where you can take a bath/shower and even rest on a daybed... seriously... this could be an Orgy room...

Once I checked into the lounge, within 5-10 seconds this lovely petite girl asks me, "Sir, Would you care for a Drink?" Why of course, Champagne, please... I have a soft-spot for the bubbly, so I enjoyed a glass or three while I charged my iPod and Cell phone (both later stolen during my South East Asia trip) ... They have a dinning room area, with a wide range of snacks and lovely Dim Sum... so I decided to enjoy some great food, but after dinner it was time to try out  one of they key features at HKG which are the Cabanas or Private bathrooms/relax rooms.

The Cabanas have a shower/bath tub and two leather day-beds... Give me a cute girl and it would have been the perfect place to "relax" at the airport... alas, traveling solo has some negatives side-effects, so I only used the room for it's original purpose, shower and a few minutes of ZZZ time... after an hour it's was time to catch my flight to Hanoi and start my six week adventure in South East Asia... more to follow soon...
